In this blog post, I want to talk about some of the factors that are commonly disregarded at first from many that are looking to create their online business and how to start this online journey.

If you have been reading the previous posts that I’ve shared in this blog, you will notice that I’ll talk about my personal online experience.

How to start an online business in this day and age isn’t rocket science. The fact is that You can start right away and the entry barrier is low or none. When choosing your platform to do so from the many available and some are even completely free. Like WordPress or Blogger.

However to achieve success doing it that’s pretty hard …but not impossible.

Seems pretty easy to say. Hard work and persistence. I believe that those are the secret ingredients to achieving success online or in a traditional brick-and-mortar business.

What’s not easy is what motivates you to do so. That’s not so simple!

I’ve personally been hustling for 4 years from the time I’m posting this post. Still haven’t achieved my goals… but I’m not alone here on this online hustle. Many are in the same shoes as mine.

Here is what I’ve experienced and researched online about this topic.

Chasing the “Shiny” Objects Syndrome

Looking at most successful YouTubers, Podcasters, Bloggers, and so on. Seems that they hold the secret to success because seems so easy to follow their step-by-step tutorials and achieve what’s that you’re looking for.

In my honest opinion not discrediting no one. Many share their strategies to success and I believe that their strategies are legit.

Many of these strategies follow marketing fundamentals. The strategies shared can work great for some but why not for all?

I’m discrediting those get-rich-quick schemes… these are great in persuasion targeting those chasing what some called the “Shiny Object Syndrome“. They just sell YOUR dream back to you. Telling what you want to hear! (They made their research pretty well)

“Shiny object syndrome is the situation where people focus all attention on something that is current and trendy, yet drop this as soon as something new takes its place.”

Source Wikipedia

That’s why it doesn’t work because once you get your first roadblock and before you know. You have already shifted your focus and changed to something that seems to be easier getting stuck in this loop of failure after failure.

Truth is that in this way you’ve never really committed to anything.

I would say a cliche sentence “Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone” and this I believe is what’s hard and holding many, myself included.

It is almost self-explanatory.

So let’s dig more into the online business how to start and what’s holding us back from achieving success! Or simply to start what you’ve been dreaming of!

The Fear of Failure

The fact that if success hasn’t knocked at your door cannot be blamed on external factors but it is on you. Your shoulders!

We are the ones unintentionally been holding ourselves back to achieve our goals. Our success goals.

There’s a famous quote that says failure is part of success. So many simply don’t start because they are afraid to fail.

I’ve been far from succeeding online but haven’t stopped.

The Search for Perfection

If you are those like myself and couldn’t finish a website and click the publish button because something isn’t perfect in your eyes… you need to fix quickly this way of thinking.

Don’t search for perfection when starting your online business. You will never start!

This quest for perfecting the website aesthetics took me years failing to complete one… 🤣

Instead, take this blog compared to other authoritative blogs as an example. My blog Hustlerly is far to be perfect but here is the thing.

It doesn’t need to be perfect at all, you need some basics but that’s all. The important is the content itself. At a later stage, then adjust and make it better.

Just start and then you’ll figure it out, maybe design-wise will be completely different from what’s presently is!

That’s normal!

In case you haven’t read, here is a post that I’ve done research that talks about the perfect structure of a highly successful post. You can check it out here!

Social Acceptance

We talked about getting out of “Our Comfort Zone” earlier and that’s where I think this topic fits pretty well.

Listen to this audio file from Les Brown.One of the world’s most renowned motivational speakers.

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone, Les Brown.

Right from the start, the idea of creating an online business for many will be looked at as not a real business and a waste of time.

Because we are still being formatted from a young age to follow the “normal” standards. Study hard and get good grades, get a good job for life, buy a house, get married, have kids, and rinse and repeat for the next generation.

There’s no such thing as jobs for life anymore unfortunately for some. However, if you have an entrepreneurial mindset then maybe that does not impact your decision.

But that’s not all, social will still be affecting us, we are still humans, as far as I know, eh eh!

You need to learn to filter social criticism. Take the constructive critics and move from there.

Remember this is YOUR online hustle, not theirs!

Motivation, Patience, and Persistence

I’ve decided to group these three important factors because as a reader might think that this is the after started the online business.

These are in my opinion the main “Mindset” pillars for your online business.

This is how I’ll see this.

  • MotivationThat’s for sure!
  • PatienceSure!
  • PersistenceI’m persistent!

If your motivation is not “Strong” then your patience and persistence will be “Weak” and that’s in my point of view the reason that almost 90% of online business fails.

I’ve personally closed some online e-commerce business shops because of this same point shared above. I was following some business ideas from others so didn’t last long…

You should take time researching and learning successes and failures from others. Then take the “Good” and reject the “Bad”.

There’s no such thing as quick and easy money from an online business. Maybe some have luck and strike at the first time but can it last over and over again?

I’ll say, take your time to do your research about the many online opportunities available out there you feel comfortable and see yourself doing it for the next few years.

  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Dropshipping
  • Print on demand
  • Coaching (If you have expertise in something that you can teach)
  • Amazon reseller (Facebook marketplace, eBay among others…)

Don’t rush this step because this is essential when roadblocks start coming your way. You’ll need to find the strength in you to go thru.

Find a problem and provide a solution! Success will knock at your door.

That’s the Holy Grail. All you don’t want is chasing your customers but instead your customers chasing your product or service!

Possibly you’ve heard about the 80/20 rule. If not this is basically what it means.

Applying The 80/20 Rule

The 80/20 Rule is also known as the Pareto Principle

“The Pareto principle states that for many outcomes, roughly 80% of consequences come from 20% of causes.”

Source Wikipedia

This is in my opinion if you apply this principle when you first start 80% focus in brainstorming your business idea, researching and, structuring a rough plan. Get a clear path to what you want to achieve.

Then the 20% of work will flow much easier. Sitting at your laptop and creating it, even doing some adjustments along your path!

Seems hard work, but nothing is easy without effort.

Resulting 20/80 Outcome

Inverting this rule, after the heavy lift work of planning ahead, could be the desired result.

Meaning that 20% of work required sitting in front of your laptop to create/build the website, blog, or funnel. Should get 80% of the desired outcome.

This was my simplified version but you get the point. Take your time to plan before you act.

Conclusion

In this blog post, I’ve decided to share some factors that I’ve personally experienced and commonly disregarded right from the start when creating an online business that can ultimately lead to an early failure

Starting an online business in today’s World can be quite simple and cheap due to all technology available BUT starting a lasting online business is not that simple!

We need to get our ideas pretty clear. At least knowing where to focus and pointing our aims to the destination.

All successful online businesses have started from scratch that’s true but they all have something in common.

Planning in advance is for sure!

However, planning isn’t so simple if you don’t know where or what you want to achieve

Here I talked about 6 of what I think that before starting is important to FIX so that the online journey can be smoother.

What holds us back from succeeding:

  • Chasing the “Shiny” Objects Syndrome;
  • The Fear of Failure;
  • The Search for Perfection;
  • Social Acceptance;
  • Motivation, Patience and, Persistence;
  • Applying the 80/20 Rule, Resulting 20/80 Outcome.

In my opinion, these are some of the common failure causes that prevent you from even starting a business. Dead at the beach!

Failure is part of success but doesn’t mean that we must fail.

Accept failure as part of the learning curve required to master this skill required to build a successful online business.
